The Heydar Aliyev International Airport, one of the busiest airports of the Caucasus, served 264,000 passengers of international flights only in January 2018.

Moreover, the most popular international destinations from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport for the first month of 2018 were announced, according to Sputnik.az.

The press service of the airport reported that the ten most popular international destinations are Moscow, Istanbul, Dubai, Kiev, Tehran, Antalya, Tbilisi, Baghdad, Doha and St. Petersburg. About 198,000 passengers made flights in these directions.

In general, 305,000 passengers were served during the reporting period, which is by 19 percent more than the indicator of the same period last year.

The share of the national air carrier Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) was 129,000 passengers, the share of the national low-cost carrier Buta Airways – 37,000 passengers, which as a result exceeded last year’s figure by 15 percent.

The Heydar Aliyev International Airport is one of the six international airports serving Azerbaijan. The airport is located 20 kilometers northeast of Baku, connected to the city by a modern highway, which was put into operation in 2008.

In 2017, the airport served more than 4 million passengers, which is 20 percent more than in 2016.

To date, to Heydar Aliyev International Airport serves 25 airlines in 46 destinations.

In March 2017, the airport also topped the list of the best in terms of the level of services provided among all airports in the CIS countries, according to the Skytrax World Airport Awards.
