Baku is included in the Top three cities of the CIS that are popular for travel of Russian tourists on February 23 – the Fatherland Defender’s Day that is celebrated in Russia.

This follows from the ranking of the CIS cities, compiled by the Russian service for booking accommodation Tvil.ru. The ranking is based on the inquiries and accommodation booking by the tourists during the holidays on February 23-25.

Following the capital of Belarus Minsk and capital of Kazakhstan Astana, Baku occupies the third place in the ranking.

Tvil.ru notes that Russian tourists book accommodation in the capital of Azerbaijan for on average of 2.5 nights and spend approximately $46 a day for this. The same figures for Minsk and Astana are 2.5 days ($37) and 2 days ($50) respectively.

Today, there are hundreds accommodation facilities and travel agencies in Azerbaijan. The prices for hotels and hostels became even more attractive for the foreign visitors due to the devaluation of the national currency in 2015. The provided accommodation establishments are of any price range, starting from just $6-7 per night in hostels and $25 in hotels.

Therefore, it is not surprising that last year, tourists flocked to the Land of Fire in record numbers. Their flow increased by 20 percent compared to 2016 and reached 2,691,998 people. This is the highest figure observed so far in Azerbaijan. Among those foreign nationals, visitors from Russia made up 31.6 percent of tourists, followed by Georgian, Iranian, Turkish and UAE nationals.
